Lips have been a huge topic in the world of cosmetics. The answer to both questions is Lip Fillers, a non-surgical procedure that solves all cosmetic lip concerns.
Here Pure Bliss Med Spa, Atlanta’s number one Medspa, has grown much popularity for clients with amazing results when receiving lip fillers. Our nurse practitioner, Asha Hill, has been perfecting her craft for over the last 7+ years.

Lip fillers, a form of lip augmentation, are a non-surgical treatment that uses hyaluronic acid, also known as HA, (hyaluronic acid fillers) as its main ingredient to improve lip volume. Keep in mind that lip fillers are not considered plastic surgery like other forms of lip implants. Thus, our injectable fillers are a type of dermal filler that adds volume and shape to your lips that might’ve been lost — or that you may have never had.
A lip enhancement procedure also helps to smoothen fine lines on the lips that may have appeared due to aging or other life events, particularly on your upper lip. This non-surgical, cosmetic procedure is used with a local anesthetic and can be completed in a matter of 15 to 30 minutes. It all depends on how much is needed for the look that the client is trying to achieve.
Although a lip augmentation procedure can be life-changing, it is important to know that it is not necessarily permanent. For some clients, lip fillers can last for a very long time depending on how the body adjusts. But normally when first receiving lip fillers, the solution is known to migrate — because the body does identify it as something foreign.
After the second or third touchup, the body does eventually recognize it as hyaluronic acid and therefore gradually breaks it down over time. As such, touch-ups are often necessary if you would like to maintain optimal results.
There are two different product options we offer for Lip Fillers at Pure Bliss Med Spa: Juvederm Ultra Plus Plus and Restylane Kysse.
Both products are great options for lip fillers and deliver amazing results. Choosing which one is best for you will be up to your injector — after your initial consultation.
Juvederm Ultra Plus is a filler injectable that we use for lip augmentation procedures. This Injectable solution is made of hyaluronic acid to create more volume than other injectable products, while still leaving the lips feeling soft. It has a thicker consistency and can be placed in the mid to deep layers of the dermis — allowing it to deposit volume over an area.
We recommend Juvederm Ultra Plus for lip injections to clients who are looking for more volume or smoothing lines on the lips. It’s also our most popular option!
Restylane Kysse is another injectable we offer for lip enhancement procedures. It is made of hyaluronic acid gel and was created to help clients achieve fullness to the lips. The hyaluronic acid ingredient within the injectable solution helps ensure the lips remain soft (but not too soft), natural feeling, and flexible.
Lip fillers are a treatment that everyone can benefit from since our bodies naturally produce hyaluronic acid. However, some practices do have certain preferences when it comes to who is fit to receive lip fillers. To start, you must be at least 18 years old to be a candidate for lip fillers. Individuals with skin that naturally keloids, with a history of oral herpes, with bleeding disorders, or with an active infection where you plan to receive fillers are not candidates for this procedure. It has also been found that women who are pregnant and/or nursing should not receive fillers.
Some of the best candidates for lip fillers include:
Although most practices have their own set of rules for their clients to follow when it comes to dermal filler procedures, there are some things to avoid before your lip filler appointment — especially 48 hours in advance.
Activities to avoid include but are not limited to:
Communicating with clients on aftercare before their treatment is key to helping them avoid any side effects that make them hesitant to get lip fillers in the first place. Also, communicating what can help a client’s experience be more enjoyable is just as important; one of which is taking arnica tablets at least a week prior to their appointment to help avoid bruising.
At Pure Bliss Med Spa, we include all necessary information in detail as soon as our clients book their appointments. Our spa coordinator informs them of what they should and should not do — as well as guides them to the information that can be found in their email to help further prepare them. At the end of the day, our clients feel well-prepared when receiving dermal fillers at our Sandy Springs location.
When clients call our med spa to book lip fillers, they typically ask if they should start with a consultation or book the procedure. We always suggest booking the procedure!
Reason one, the first 15 minutes of every treatment is designated for consulting with our clients by our nurse practitioner. Reason two, our books get filled very fast and very far out, and getting treated on the same day as your consultation is not always guaranteed. Reason three, we know you’ll love what our injector will discuss with you about your concerns and the youthful appearance you want to achieve. So you’ll want to book immediately. Also, keep in mind that you will have a few days of swelling and bruising after the procedure, so planning around that is always necessary.
Your treatment will begin with numbing the lips by our spa coordinator to make your lip filler experience comfortable. The topical numbing cream will be left on the skin for 30 minutes prior to the procedure being performed. There is also the option of a dental block for additional comfort as well. Once your lips are numbed, our Nurse Practitioner will strategically inject the filler into the desired areas — resulting in the perfect pout.
When receiving lip fillers for the first time, you can expect them to last up to 6-8 months before needing a touch-up. After your first touch-up (second treatment), they typically last a little longer; up to a year. Everyone’s experience is different. If you are ever unsure of when to book a touch-up, you can always book a free consultation with us to check.
After initially receiving lip fillers, your lips will appear to be fuller than you may have been expecting. This is due to swelling as the body adjusts. Your lips can also feel tender and appear a little red for the first 3-5 days. Some clients even experience bruising that can last anywhere from 1-2 weeks, which is normal. But not all clients experience this. Just like with Botox injections, inflammation can also occur, but our nurse practitioner will provide you with ice and instruct you to ice your lips at home as well. This will help your recovery and bring the swelling down some. Just remember not to apply too much pressure.
With that being said, there is little to no downtime after your procedure. So if you feel comfortable going in public, you are totally fine to do so. However, there are a few things to avoid for the first 24 hours:
Every client can expect different results when it comes to how long their fillers will last. Basically, it all depends on the choice of filler product, volume amount, and personal lifestyle. But most injectors will state that lip fillers can last anywhere from 6 to 12 months after the first treatment. The injectable is also known to metabolize quicker in clients who are younger, active, physically fit, and/or who have a high metabolism — but the biggest determining factor is how much filler is used for a client to achieve their goal.
Here at Pure Bliss Med Spa, Atlanta’s Premier Med Spa, our injector uses at least a whole syringe (or more if needed) for all clients. This is to help the fillers last longer than the anticipated timeline given. There are a lot of different factors that play a role in the longevity of lip fillers. But our injector is very strategic in the placement and the amount needed to help maintain long-lasting results. After your second treatment, the fillers can last anywhere from 12 to 24 months before needing another touch-up.
Again, everyone’s results are different so it is always a great idea to consult with your injector for realistic expectations.
