PURE BLISS MED SPA / JUNE 16, 2022 / BODY, FACE

Healthy skin is the key to happiness, not just for your appearance but for your mind. If you look good, you feel good. So, you need to develop a good skincare routine that you can be consistent with daily. This can include facial treatments as well as a homecare routine. Both are highly recommended and complement each other. Good health starts with self-care, a good skincare routine to ensure that your skin looks and feels healthy.

Even though the skin, also known as the integumentary system, is the largest organ in the body, many neglect to take care of it. Healthy skin is not only important because of how it looks, but it can also determine any health issues. With the skin constantly exposed to environmental pollutants and the sun, it’s at a higher risk of environmental damage. It is very hard to undo prolonged damage to the skin; therefore, taking care of it is key, starting with creating healthy habits. The sooner you start, the better your skin will be long-term.

It is never too late to create a good routine and healthy skin habits. Adopting a home care skin routine helps to boost your skin’s self-healing properties. You won’t see the benefits and changes if you aren’t consistent with your skincare routine.

Having a good routine is very similar to taking care of a plant. A plant needs watering to stay alive; without it, it will dry out and die. If you are consistently watering it with just the right amount, you will see your plant grow, bloom, and flourish. The same applies to your skin, stay consistent with your routine, and you will see it grow and flourish like it never has before!

The Science Behind a Skin Care Routine

Our skin naturally renews itself by going through a cycle called desquamation. Desquamation is the process the skin goes through to rid of old, unwanted dead skin cells to replace those dead skin cells with new ones. This process is approximately 28-32 days and increases as we age. Once the cycle is complete, the skin cells that were once new become old, damaged, and dead, needing to be replaced with newer skin cells.

You might question: Is following a strict skincare routine important and necessary? The answer is yes. As the skin constantly sheds and renews itself with its natural regeneration cycle, the true question is where those replaced dead skin cells go. They stay right on the skin and clog the pores, leaving the skin dull, textured, and prone to breakouts. A skincare routine helps the process of desquamation and helps to remove unwanted dead skin cells.

Understanding Medical Grade Products

When choosing skin care products, many people are misled or confused about what or not to buy. Making decisions on a gel or cream cleanser, an oil vs. a cream moisturizer, or what products are beneficial for your skin type may be difficult. Trying out various products can be expensive and wasteful, so it is always important to visit an aesthetician or skin care professional to help guide you in the right direction as you invest in your skin.

Any knowledgeable skincare professional will inform you that products with active ingredients are key! Those products normally fall under the category of medical-grade products.

Medical-grade facial treatments and products are advanced systems designed to help with specific skin conditions and concerns. Although not as relaxing as traditional spa facials, medical-grade facials and procedures are result driven and are safe for all skin types.

They are also available at medical offices such as med spas, dermatology, or plastic surgery. Specific facial devices and medical-grade products are restricted exclusively to medical practices.

For skin care treatments, some examples of devices include Microdermabrasion, Dermaplaning, LED Light Therapy, Microcurrent, Laser Treatments, IPL, Chemical Peels, and Microneedling. The products used during these treatments will be medical grade and the most effective. High-quality and highly effective products and treatments can address common skin problems like acne, scarring, pitting, enlarged pores, hyperpigmentation, sun spots, post-inflammatory erythema, and a dull appearance from dead skin cells.

At Pure Bliss Med Spa, we offer top-of-the-line treatments with some of the most elite devices in the Atlanta and Sandy Springs area. We are a medical spa that exclusively carries medical-grade products, techniques, and equipment. Our facials offer safe and effective options to restore your skin and confidence.

Whether you’re struggling with anti-aging concerns, hyperpigmentation, breakouts, or dehydrated skin, our product lines can provide the skincare boost you’ve been searching for. Medical-grade products contain highly concentrated ingredients to help your skin’s specific concerns. The active ingredients within the products cater to healing imperfections that over-the-counter products can’t effectively do. Ultimately leaving your skin brighter, healthier, and glowing.

Customized Treatment Plans

Another important thing to note is that medical-grade treatments are customized to your skin’s needs. Your skin will be closely analyzed, and a customized treatment will be suggested. Everyone has different needs regarding their skin, and we are a med spa that provides customized care for your unique skin. Medical-grade treatments and products are formulated with high potency ingredients designed to help you achieve long-term results. Compared to over-the-counter products and low-investment treatments, medical-grade products are created to go a little deeper than the surface of the skin and are more potent with active ingredients. Over time this creates consistency for your skin, leaving you with long-lasting results that only get better over time.

Improved Skin Cycle

Medical-grade products include potent ingredients that penetrate the skin generating results you want at the cellular level. You will find that most medical-grade products work by prompting your skin to shed old cells to promote newer cells and replace them. After committing to a product regiment for a few weeks, you will see a major change to the barrier of your skin. Your skin will be renewed with healthy skin cells and improved texture providing a brighter, glowing, and even complexion.

Care For Sensitive Skin

There are certain medical-grade products and treatments created for sensitive skin. Clients that struggle with skin concerns such as dryness, eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea may find it difficult to find products that won’t irritate the skin. As an advanced skin care clinic, we offer medical-grade products and services with anti-redness properties, anti-inflammatory properties, and other agents that can be safely applied to help soothe the skin if sensitive. Various gentle formulations are created and designed to help correct the most sunburn, hyperpigmentation, and roughest textures. The options are endless with high-quality products but always double-check that the product and ingredients are designed for you.

What Are the Steps in a Good Skincare Routine?

All skincare products are not created equally. Therefore everyone’s skincare routine may look a little different than others. Either way, everyone should follow 4-5 daily essential steps in a specific order, no matter what products they use. Including about 1-2 additional steps that can be done a few times a week, depending on your unique skin’s needs.

1. Cleanse- Cleansing the skin is always the first and most essential step of a skincare routine. This step removes excess oils, dirt, makeup, etc., from the skin’s outermost layer. It sets the

tone and prepares the skin for the following steps.

2. Exfoliate- Although exfoliating is not done daily (1-3 times a week is preferred depending on your skin type). This step is still just as important as the others. As we mentioned, the skin goes through a process of replacing old skin cells with new ones. Properly exfoliating helps to ensure that those old dead skin cells are completely gone. There are different types and delivery forms of exfoliants. Talk to your skincare provider to ensure you use one ideal.

3. Mask- It is always great to follow up with a mask after exfoliating. Your skin is more absorbent and allows the mask’s ingredients to penetrate. Benefits of doing a mask at least once a week include clarifying your pores, increasing blood circulation within the skin, and general skin care prep for the following steps.

4. Tone- Toning the skin always comes directly after the skin is cleansed and directly after exfoliating. Using a daily toner day and night is very important. This step helps bring the skin back to its correct PH Balance so it can properly absorb the following products. Though different tones cater to different concerns or have different benefits for the skin, making sure you are using the correct daily toner is important.

5. Active products- Some products are potent in active, prescription strength ingredients and geared towards specific skin issues. These products typically come in a serum, cream (such as retinol or eye cream), or gel (an acne spot treatment). This step should be done directly after your toner is applied and absorbed.

6. Moisturize- Moisturizing the skin is a vital step in your routine. Depending on the ingredients, the moisturizer delivers hydration or locks it in. This is one of the most important steps of your routine to help enhance your moisture barrier.

7. Protect- Protecting the skin is the most crucial step but also one of the most overlooked. There are many myths and false information surrounding the use of sunscreen. Repeatedly applying sunscreen is vital to protecting your skin from environmental damage. Following these steps consistently can help improve your skin’s complexion and appearance tremendously. Common Products and Active Ingredients

With so many products and ingredients on the market, it is hard to know which is best, who it is for, and what exactly it does. The internet can be overwhelming with suggesting the most popular products to purchase but without accurate depictions of each product.

The most popular and heavily advertised products are not always the best on the market. It is always important to check with your skin care professional to help educate you on the best options for your skin. We are here to help with just that. A few common products and ingredients that can be found in products are:

Exfoliation

Glycolic Acid

Glycolic acid is a water-soluble, alpha hydroxy acid, AHA, derived from sugar. It is probably considered the most well-known and widely used AHA in skincare products. It is commonly used to exfoliate the skin’s barrier gently.

Lactic Acid

Lactic Acid is another Alpha Hydroxy Acid, AHA, derived from milk. Its common use is to help lighten areas of hyperpigmentation, improve the skin’s tone, and gently exfoliate the skin’s barrier.

Salicylic Acid

Salicylic acid is an exfoliating oil-soluble property that falls under the beta hydroxyl acid, BHA umbrella. It is derived from willow bark and is best for oilier skin types. It breaks down the oil to help clear out and refine the pores.

Enzymes

Enzymes, normally derived from fruity acids, are exfoliating agents that gently and effectively improve the skin’s barrier. They are best when paired with antioxidant properties, acids, or even incorporated into a physical exfoliant such as a scrub.

Acne

Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl Peroxide is a chemical compound in skin care products normally used to treat mild to moderate acne. Its key benefit when treating breakouts is helping reduce the bacteria that causes acne, allowing the skin to dry out and peel.

Tretinoin

Tretinoin is a prescription topical cream, and sometimes a gel used to treat specific skin concerns such as acne and sun damage.

Hydration

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in parts of the body and skincare. It is considered a humectant, meaning it draws moisture to the skin, helping it retain its suppleness and firmness. Other benefits include treating dryness, anti-aging properties, and antioxidant properties.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide is derived from vitamin B3, as known as niacin. Its key role is to help minimize enlarged pores, smoothen textured skin, restore moisture retention with the skin and hydration levels, and help even the skin’s tone and brighten its appearance.

Anti-Aging

Stem Cells

Stem Cells are an anti-aging element in skin care that promotes healthy cell turnover and increases collagen production. Stem cells contain amino acids, and peptides are known beneficiaries in skin care products.

Peptides

Peptides, also called polypeptides, are compounds made up of amino acids. They naturally occur in the skin but can also be found in skin care products. The key benefits of peptides include stopping collagen breakdown, so the skin does not age as quickly.

Retinol

Retinol is a vitamin A derivative from over-the-counter and medical-grade products. It is great for anti-aging concerns like fine lines and wrinkles and helps balance oil and correct acne. There are different percentages, with the potency increasing by the number.

Brightening

Kojic Acid

Kojic acid is derived from fermented rice and soy sauce. It is best known for its ability to stop tyrosine from creating melanin resulting in lightened hyperpigmentation and skin tone.

Arbutin

Arbutin is a derivative of fruit leaves such as bearberry, pear, and cranberry that helps break down stubborn hyperpigmentation and brighten the skin’s complexion. Its best delivery form is a cream and is good for all skin types.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a popular antioxidant found in skin care products that help to lighten unwanted pigment and brighten the skin’s surface. The best form of vitamin C in skin-related products is L-Ascorbic Acid, with a concentration percentage of 15 or higher.
